Linda Slattery Sherman

Lives & works in Montgomery Village, MD

Abstract art is part of my spiritual journey, my form of meditation. My best paintings come when I lose myself in the process. The journey is equally as important as the finished product, sometimes more so.

Sometimes making the painting is about making marks that result from large gestures. Other times it's about the surface of the canvas. I scrape, squirt and rub until I get what I want. Although I generally have something in mind when I start a canvas, oftentimes in reacting to each mark made, I wind up in a very different place from where I started. I let the painting tell me the next move to make.

I attended college at Carnegie Mellon University where I earned a BFA in graphic design, studying fine art as well as design. My interest in abstraction flows naturally from being a designer.

After working in my design career for several years, I started my own business, which I sold in 2007 to pursue my interest in painting as well as to have more personal time.

I exhibit nationally, am an award winning signature member of both the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, a member of the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association, the Rockville Art League, the International Society of Experimental Artists and more. I was a member of TAG/The Artists Gallery in Frederick for many years and was instrumental in rebranding the design for that organization.
